Understanding SIL: Supported Independent Living vs SDA

Clarifying the difference between the house you live in (SDA) and the support you receive inside it (SIL).

SIL vs SDA: The Ultimate Guide

One of the most common points of confusion in the NDIS is the difference between SIL and SDA. While SDA is the physical building, SIL is the assistance with daily tasks that happens within that building.

What SIL Includes

  • Help with personal care (showering, dressing).
  • Assistance with cooking and meal preparation.
  • Support for building domestic skills.

Most participants in SDA will also have a SIL budget to cover their 24/7 care needs.
